All sailors should assume that during a global pandemic, when there is COVID-19 prevalence in virtually every locale, anyone could transmit the virus. Because everyone is a potential transmission risk, taking appropriate safety and risk management measures is crucial, as is communicating staff and attendee requirements and responsibilities during these unprecedented circumstances.

Like always, we are taking safety at our event very seriously. After careful consideration of all our departure and destinations regulations, we have implemented the following measures to promote the health and wellbeing of attendees and staff.

New policies and procedures:

  • Health Protocols, Social Distancing, and extra fees

    • Viking Explorers will request that PCR Test are being done 7 days before departure from Gran Canaria by all sailors. This will be organized by Viking Explorers together with a hospital in Gran Canaria.

    • Documents will show that yachts/crew/passengers have been at sea for 14 days before arrival to Grenada.

    • No intermediate land-stops or contact with crew/passengers from other boats will be made after leaving Gran Canaria or Cape Verde and before arrival in Grenada. Boats are GPS tracked and can be used as proof.

    • Crew/passengers arriving in Grenada in less than 14 days will spend the days required in quarantine on their yachts.

    • Upon arrival all crews will have to show a negative test from departure, temperature will be measured and a rapid test will be done.

    • Crews will have to pay for PCR test. The PCR test in Gran Canaria and Cape Verde is aprox. 100$ , in Grenada the rapid test costs aprox. 25$.

  • Crews are encouraged to create a “ bubble” within the fleet 14 days before departure, and to take extra cautions.

  • Crews are encouraged to “selfisolate” after the PCR test 7 days before departure in Gran Canaria, and depart then with their negative results

  • The stopover is Cape Verde is an “ alternative stop” this year. Shall you want to stop in Mindelo, please consider that you will must do another PCR test there.

  • Participants must follow at all times local restrictions and health protocols. The organisation will in no case have any responsibility to crews that do not cmply with these.

  • Crews that do not follow the Safety Health Regulation, will be refused to participate at the event.

As the situation evolves, so will our approach to keeping you safe. We thank you for your patience and flexibility as we manage this and ask that you check back here for updates. We will keep you updated at all times.
