After weeks of ocean sailing, thousands of nautical miles, and months of preparation, the 9th edition of the Viking Explorers Rally has officially concluded in Grenada, marking another triumphant chapter for this distinctive Atlantic Rally.

The Viking Explorers fleet has successfully arrived in Marina Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, concluding a lively and rewarding offshore passage from the Canary Islands.

The departure followed a two-day delay due to weather conditions, concluding a prolonged period of unsettled weather that affected the Canary Islands throughout recent weeks.

The full fleet — 17 boats representing 10 nationalities — is now in port, unified by a shared passion for ocean adventure. The fleet includes 5 multihulls and 12 monohulls, underscoring the diversity of vessels and sailing backgrounds the rally unites.

After weeks of preparation—and a healthy dose of patience—the Viking Explorers 2026 fleet slipped its lines in the Canary Islands on January 8, departing between 0900 and 1200 local time and turning bows south toward Mindelo, Cape Verde.

The eighth edition of the Viking Explorers Rally departed as scheduled, on January 6th from Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, towards the stunning shores of Grenada, the Spice Island of the Caribbean.

The Viking Explorers Rally 2025 fleet, set sail from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on January 6th. The fleet of 22 boats embarked on the 850-mile voyage south to the Cape Verde Islands, which took between 4 to 8 days to complete under exceptional sailing conditions.

Scheduled to set sail on the 6th of January 2024, the seventh edition promises to be an extraordinary adventure for all participants as they cross the Atlantic with the expert assistance of the organization and in collaboration with Sevenstar Yacht Transport.

By the end of January the first boats started to arrive at Port Louis Marina in Grenada. SY iSea from Denmark, a J46 with captain Klaus Bonde, his wife Gitte and crew Martin and Antoine arrived on Sunday the 29th of January after being 14 days out at sea and the rest of the boats would follow over the next few days

The Vikings are coming! Some 8 boats, with 30 crew hailing from Sweden, Norway, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and Canada will cast off from the Canary Islands this month en route to the Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina in Grenadain the 4th edition of the Viking Explorers Rally. Some boats will make a stop in Mindelo, Cape Verde, while others will sail the 2800 miles direct to the Spice island.

Skippers are being invited to sign up for the third Viking Explorers Rally from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to St. Vincent.

This year there were 17 nationalities represented among the 20 yachts and 60 cruisers who cast off from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in early January en route to the Blue Lagoon Hotel & Marina in St. Vincent on the third edition of this annual transatlantic rally. An easy two- to three-week crossing under light winds meant the cruisers had plenty of energy to explore St. Vincent.

Seventeen boats, clustered under the name Viking Explorers, set sail from Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands in early January, heading for Blue Lagoon Marina, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  They arrived at their destination after a month or so.
