“From start to finish the communication from Carlota and Oliver has been first class. Every question we asked, was answered, very quickly, without fuss. We knew that this was a friendly Rally, one that wanted you to get to know the other Rally members, make friendships and perhaps even new boat buddies and that worked exceptionally well. Having the small number of boats traveling, max. 25, was our main interest. We weren't keen sailing with a fleet of 50 plus boats. We were not regulated like many other Rallies. The only equipment we required to have was some type of Satellite link that would allow the organizers to track our positions and allow communication between them and with the other Rally boats. We took charge of our own boat and bought the requirements we needed, not told what to buy. As a small group we often talked to each other about various equipment each had on board and often this lead to other Rally members purchasing an item, that through discussion, became an imperative one to buy. As a small Rally we were also able to provide the support to each other, and assist if required. We became more of a family. Before we left Las Palmas, Carlota had arranged for us to purchase fruit and Vegetables, Meat and Pharmacy items. This was the most excellent service with top quality products. The comradeship of the Rally became far more apparent as we sailed across the Atlantic. This was due to the excellent communication and tracking service provided through PredictWind, which allowed our families and friends to track our progress, but also read our daily blogs. Crossing the Atlantic is a trip of a lifetime, you want to enjoy the best you can and receive the best service. We believe the service we received was above and beyond that and I don't think we can say much more than if you are thinking, like us of joining a Rally then do consider the Viking Explorers. We don't think you will be sorry.”

We were looking for a small rally to cross the Atlantic. Viking Explorers fit our needs perfectly. Oliver and Carlota provided information and support on a wide range of topics such as safety, provisioning and communications. They even set up tracking so that the other boats, family and friends back home could follow our progress. It was great fun getting daily updates of the other boats positions. As sailors always do, we even had a little informal competition amongst ourselves for first landfall in St. Vincent. Because the group was small, everyone pitched in and helped one another get ready for the crossing We made a lot of new friends. In the months following our arrival in St. Vincent, we crossed paths with many of our new friends…until Covid-19 locked everything down. If we find ourselves needing to cross the Atlantic again, we will go with Viking Explorers.

We first heard about the group pretty early and then we thought this would be awesome to hang out with other international sailors. We have learned so much from everyone else and the boat is much more safe now because of that. And its super fun to meet everyone after a sailing and have a couple of beers. We now have contacts everywhere and lots of friends. Mom and dad were happy that we sailed with other people as well!

”Everyone was as happy as us to arrive and there was welcome parties on the beach most nights. It was incredibly satisfying to be part of this merry, brave and wonderful group of sailors of all ages and from different yacht of varying sort and size. Such a fellowship is really special and rare to find in other contexts!”

I got a lot of help from other Vikings when preparing for the Atlantic crossing. Oliver gave a good lesson in security thinking. Without V. E. I may not have started my project to buy another boat and take off from Sweden. The social network with V. E. still works in April four months after meeting in Las Palmas. And info is always published on Facebook about members of V. E. On S/Y Marina I had a sail maker in the crew that repaired sails on other boats in V. E. with a machine from Looma lV. If someone was missing a tool or a screw somebody else got it. And much more...
